Narrator: She was the youngest person to ever win a gold medal at the 1998 Winter Olympics. The kid was a natural from the moment she stepped on the ice Tara's parents recognized it and hired the best coaches money could buy soon she was competing at a National level. In a field where speed and grace are a given Tara had one move which set her apart she was the first female to perform the unheard of triple loop triple loop combination in competition. As the games in Nagano approached fellow American Michelle Kwan became the heavy favorite to take home the gold. Tara had other ideas when she pulled off her signature triple loop in a flawless long program it was clear that these were Tara's Olympics. The High school freshman won the gold pulling off one of the biggest upsets in skating history two months later Tara appeared on the Today show to announce the end of her amatuer career.
