Deborah Norville: Competition begins Tuesday and what is the favorite event for many Olympic fans, ladies figure skating, and while it seems the competitors are getting younger the costumes are getting skimpier. But how hot is too hot? Olympic gold medallist Tara Lipinski is Inside Edition's special Olympic corospondant.
Tara: (to Sasha) Do you think skating costumes have gotten too sexy?
Its never been an issue for me, but that was the question I posed when I sat down with gold medal hopeful Sasha Cohen. These days, skaters practically melt the ice in these lovely and graceful costumes.
Sasha Cohen: I try to keep it really kind of elegant. There's always gonna be one or two girls that push the envelope.
Tara: American ice dancer Tana Feldman is known for her striking, vibrant outfits. Look at her wow the crowd in this costume.
(to Sasha) Do you think that skaters feel the need or the pressure to wear more revealing outfits?
Sash Cohen: Um, you know, I think they want to show off their bodies in the best light.
Tara: But, Skating With Celebrities judge Marc Lund has some advice for skaters...
Marc Lund: Be sexy, be attractive, but we want to make sure we're not R-rated here.
Tara: (to Sasha)So do you think the costumes affect the way the judges maybe, mark the skaters?
Sasha: I don't know. I've seen people win in some pretty terrible costumes. I think everyone has different taste.
Tara: So there's the fashion, but how do you put it all together?
(to Sasha) How do you keep the costumes from staying put and from not having a malfunction or going places you don't want it to go?
Sasha: Well lots of fittings, usually the outfits are made of something stretchy, elastic on the rims. Some girls use glue to stick them on and just, trial and error.
Tara: Sasha Cohen is practically hands on when it comes to her outfits. She even sketches her own designs!
(sitting down with Sasha) So I've seen the sketch, now I want to see the outfit in real life.
Sasha: All right.
Tara: Very beautiful.
Sasha: Thank you.
Tara: Sasha will wear this vibrant blue costume with a fringe flowered skirt at this years Olympics, and she hopes, she'll win a gold medal to match.
(to Sasha) How do you feel going into the Olympics?
Sasha: I'm physically much more stronger and more ready, so I'm just excited to enjoy this experience.
Tara: (hugging Sasha) lots of good luck to you.
